Zenko Int’l (All Tiger Groups) – Online News – July 2005

Dear Kyudo friends,
Warm greetings,

July went by as a Ya  ``should`` leave the Tsuru : `` without notice ``
!
Hum !! Where was I in July …

Lots of interesting and important News.

Enjoy  ;-)

___________

News from Zenko Int’l’s Council

1)
Congradulations to Eberhard Timischl from Koko Kyudojo – Bern –
Switzerland for his appointment as a new Council Member to Zenko Int’l,
representing Europe.

2)
Contrary to what was announced at the time of Zenko Int’l’s Community
(Open) Meeting held at Karme-Choling (Vermont – USA) during its June
Kyudo Program, the existing Council will not look for new Council
Members representing North America and that until the end of the year
2006.

Said decision goes with the Council’s wish to consolidate what has been
worked on since its Annual Meeting held in Muenster – Germany last
January.

We wish to take this opportunity to deeply thank those of you who have
signified their interest.

3)
You will find as an attachment, a summary of some of the topics
presented by the Council during its Community (Open) Meeting last June.
If any questions were to arise, please do not hesitate to send an e-mail
to the concerned Council Member(s).

From Julia Rohan – Suiko Kyudojo – Montreal – Canada

Thoughts further to  Karme-Choling’s Kyudo program held June 15-23,
2005:

`` Kyudo as Ego Wrestling``

Kyudo isn’t about knowing who you are in relation to someone else. It’s
about knowing who you are in relation to you…and the answer to that
question changes from moment to moment.

It seems to me that being made an instructor should not be viewed as a
promotion but rather as a responsibility…and that it isn’t just about
showing up for practice every week, or about volunteering for “extra”
duties. It’s about the continuous effort of knowing oneself.

Corrections received from an instructor who is a stranger to his or her
emotions may create confusion, even aversion in the open-hearted
student. Should the correction be taken seriously, the student may ask?
Or does this instructor have some deeper, less noble motivation for
approaching me? Frustration, fear, judgment, desire…all are transmitted
by touch, by voice, even by aura. It isn’t a problem to have these
feelings, but being unaware of them can be. For this reason, it seems to
me that one should not seek to become an instructor, but rather a more
authentic and sincere student.

When I find my practice falling apart and it seems a new suggestion is
offered to me by every instructor who observes me even momentarily, I
have a choice. When less senior students are invited to become
instructors or to give demonstrations, I have a choice: I can either
allow the situation to engage my less noble emotions, or I can become
curious about what’s really going on. I can look inside myself, and ask
myself some hard questions about my commitment, my priorities in life,
and about who I am and who I wish to be. I can remember what it felt
like to take first shot, and simply go back to the innocence and
open-ness of that situation and let all the rest drop.

Gentle regards to Sensei,
Julia Rohan

From Ken Rawie and Edward Garrasi – Miyako Kyudojo – Washington DC –
USA:

1)
- - - - - - Thank You from Vivi Spicer - - - - - - - -

Vivi Spicer, past Zenko board member, and head of Miyako Kyudojo
in Washington, DC, stepped back from active participation in
Kyudo activities last spring when her husband Peter suffered a
massive stroke. She is now spending all her time caring for Peter
who is completely paralyzed on his left side. We certainly hope
Vivi's life will return to normal in the months ahead.

This is the first year Vivi was unable to attend the Instructors'
and Intermediate program at Karme Choling in Vermont. In response
to Vivi's situation, the Kyudo practitioners at the Karme Choling
("KCL") program sent her their best wishes on a greeting card.
Others sent little items, one of which was a Tee- shirt with a
quotation from Sensei, "Too much thinking!" The following is her
reply:

Thank you for the card from the KCL program and
the gift of the tee-shirt, which is exactly Peter's
size, emblazoned with his current instruction. He is
wearing the tee-shirt now while I continue to cry
every time I read the card from kyudoka at the KCL
program. I miss the Kyudo practice so much while I'm
challenged to stretch and work with Peter.

- - - - Intelligence Report From Washington - - - - -

We have it on good authority that Sensei will teach a Kyudo
program in Washington, DC this fall, Friday 30 September thru
Sunday 2 October. Messrs Bush and Cheney are denying any
knowledge of the event, and are making every effort to find the
source of the leak.

We have heard the program fees will be:

General Admission (beginners, etc.):
     Before Sept. 1    $195
     After Sept. 1    $225

Zenko Members:
     Before Sept. 1    $165
     After Sept. 1    $190

In the past this program has been a gathering of kyudo people
from up and down the east coast of North America, and a few other
places, too. The last time it was held in 2003, there were maybe
a dozen beginners, and forty to fifty experienced kydokas.

LOTS  OF  LONG- DISTANCE  SHOOTING.

ALL  LEVELS  >>>------->   THREE  DAYS
